Black Lives Matter – Scottish Mural Trail

The BLM mural trail, originated and curated by creative producer Wezi Mhura and Scary Biscuits, was set up in 2020 in response to the outpouring of support for Black Lives Matter following the killing of George Floyd. During the pandemic lockdown, when all arts venues were closed, many lent their support by donating space on the outside of their unused buildings for large scale artworks by Scottish based artists of colour. Artworks ranged through photography, painting, digital, street art, written word and song lyrics. It aimed to be supportive and thought provoking as well as providing work and showcases for the artists.

Over 30 artists – from a wide range of backgrounds (including Cape Verdi, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan/Harris, USA), some trained, some self taught, combining youth and experience, individuals and artist collectives – all uniquely talented – exhibited in locations in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, Dundee, St Andrews and Inverness from Jun to Nov 2020.
