Edinburgh Fringe 2017

Very excited about my Edinburgh Fringe programme for 2017, which includes Irish theatre (a UK premiere from Joanne Ryan), French chanson from Christine Bovill, Americana with a Johnny Cash flavour from Dean Owens and infectious Senegalese Afrobeat/ska from Samba Sene & Diwan

Joanne Ryan – Eggsistentialism
Summerhall, 2-27 Aug

UK premiere
Looking down the barrel of her final fertile years, one modern woman goes on a comical quest to uncover the ifs, hows and crucially the whys of reproducing her genes. Thinking outside the box in an effort to decide what to do with her own, eh, box, no stone is left unturned in this journey of extremes. Family, fertility experts, fortune tellers, philosophers, daytime radio and the dark recesses of the internet; all are consulted as she tries to figure out – should making a life for oneself involve making another? Funny, thoughtful and topical multimedia production, written and performed by Joanne Ryan.

Christne Bovill’s Paris
New Town Theatre, 18-26 Aug

Award-winning chanteuse Christine Bovill has built her reputation on the massively successful sell-out show, Piaf. In Christine Bovill’s Paris, she beckons you back to the golden age of French Song; a demi-monde of heroes and outcasts, cynics and bruised romantics. With drama, pathos and pizzazz, the show casts a sepia-tinged spotlight on the songs and stories of Jacques Brel, Edith Piaf, Barbara, Juliet Greco, Charles Aznavour and more, interspersed with wonderful anecdotes from the period.
Come and be transported into a Parisian scented twilight world of song.

Christine Bovill’s Piaf
New Town Theatre, 20 & 27 Aug

For 2 Nights Only, the return of Christine’s hugely successful Piaf show.
No gimmicks. No pretence. Nothing but a voice singing of life’s triumphs and tragedies. Christine Bovill’s Piaf is both a personal narrative and a powerful musical homage to France’s most endearing icon.
Bovill conveys the pathetic nature of the song with few gestures, her voice carrying all before her, its honeyed subtleties wringing pathos from every line… Northern Ireland Culture
