Orchestra Macaroon
is a new phenomenon.
Based on Easdale
Island which is little more than a lump of slate at the edge of the
Atlantic, they
have developed
a new band and produced a new CD international in influence and global
in outlook!
Orchestra Macaroon
is an eight-piece international, multi-talented band. The instrumental
line-up
includes piano, double bass, jazz horns, berimbao, clay pot, bongos
and several species of bagpipes.
Expect infectious loping grooves, great tunes and joyful improvisations.
Led by Edinburgh
Mela Musical Director and former Waterboy Colin Blakey, partner
Phil Bull and fellow
Easdale Islander Steve "Wee" Brown, the band includes
a pool of musicians from Ireland, Scotland and
China, playing in different combinations to keep things fresh.
Their first CD,
Breakfast in Balquhidder, has been extremely well received,
resulting in a BBC Radio
Scotland session for Celtic Connections programme.
Summer 2005 sees
them out and about, playing selected live dates. So far confirmed
are the Edinbane
Community Music Festival, as one of the main Saturday evening concerts
and 3 nights at the Spiegel
Garden - the hippest venue at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Catch them if
you can.
