All together and all alone
marc marnie is one of Scotland's leading contemporary photographers.
He has spent over a quarter of a century photographing thousands of
actors and musicians on stage and in his Edinburgh studio. His music
portfolio reads like a Who's Who featuring the likes of Dizzy Gillespie,
Miles Davis, James Brown, Nick Cave, Liam Gallagher, kd lang and Emmylou
Harris.
He has built his reputation on memorable and incisive black and white
photographs. Which makes his next exhibition all the more surprising.
OK
Computer is a new direction both in concept and technique.
The images are a combination of personal snapshots and professional
photographs, digitally manipulated and incorporating fragments of
text and binary code. A very personal document, this exhibition has
rough edges, light, darkness and many secrets. It is honest, raw,
revealing and intense. It is about emotions and insecurities. It is
about facing up to ourselves.
Marnie's second show for 2005 - marc marnie's Nights At The
Circus - features all the colour, magic and sparkle of The
Famous Spiegeltent, in a stunning new exhibition for the Edinburgh
Fringe.
The Village is an intimate, unconventional gallery space, with
a regular programme of exhibitions and music. Drop in & chill
out in the unique cafe-gallery atmosphere, lunch your day away with
friendly staff & a menu that changes every day.
Meanwhile marc is also pursuing his alternative career as a drummer
with rock band Death Star 4 (raw power with a Scottish heart!),
which includes former members of Goodbye Mr McKenzie and Blues'n'Trouble.
Their debut performance is at the Bongo Club on Sun 31 July.
