Camille
O'Sullivan is a phenomenon. An Irish/French singer, performing in
English, French and Flemish, her stunning voice and passionate, dramatic
performances have enthralled audiences from Dublin to Melbourne.
Camille
Sings Brel was one of the must-sees of Edinburgh Fringe 2004, and
it is returning to Scotland for a short run in April 2005.
Camille
Sings Brel celebrates the music of French troubadour Jacques Brel,
whose songs include Jackie, Amsterdam, Marieke, Seasons in the Sun
and Ne Me Quitte Pas. Each song has its own character, linked
by Brel's comic and tragic view of life through themes of love, sex
and death. With a passion for storytelling, Camille transforms herself
into many characters throughout the performance, including a rollicking
drunk, a lost child and a forlorn prostitute.
Her
4-piece band includes leading Scottish musicians John Rae on
drums and Mario Caribe on double bass.
Camille
has just finished filming the new Stephen Frears' film Mrs
Henderson Presents with Dame Judi Dench, Bob Hoskins and
Will Young. She is featured as a showgirl in a part which she
landed after being spotted (by Trainspotting's Euan Bremner)
at the Edinburgh Fringe. She has also performed with Damien Rice
and Shane McGowan.
She
will be returning to The Famous Spiegeltent with a new show for the
Edinburgh Fringe 2005, after a season in Brighton in May.
Camille's interpretive power of song is
a force to be reckoned with
